Leave it to the WNBA to provide what is sure to be the most overblown sports story of the week.

Several people asked me throughout the course of the morning whether I had seen the “brawl” between Candace Parker and some other WNBA player, who still is not relevant enough for me to remember her name on any of the sports highlight shows.

The buzz was enough for me to actually spend my valuable time on the internet for video of WNBA footage. Big surprise, what I saw thoroughly disappointed me.

The players involved did not so much fight as they ran into each other, were unable to show enough athleticism to stay on there feet, and then a bunch of players laid down on top of each other. This so called round of fistacuffs was about as legitimate as a Candace Parker dunk.

What is sad, is that elements of a successful sports brawl were present:

  • Bill Lambeer is the coach of the team that Candace Parker was playing (name of the team as relevant as the name of the “other” player involved).
  • It occurred at the sight of the memorable sliding Jermaine O’Neal knockout blow to a fan in the Pacers vs. Pistons melee a couple of years ago.

Sadly, like the league itself, the misunderstanding between players ended up as an over hyped fizzle.
