And Then There Was One

Led by sophomore point guard Jeff Teague, who has thus far outplayed all opposing point guards, including North Carolina’s Ty Lawson and Boston College’s Tyrese Rice, Wake Forest defeated previously undefeated Clemson 78-68 on the road to start 3-0 in the ACC. With Pittsburgh’s loss later, Wake Forest is now the only remaining unbeaten team.

The win against Clemson moved Wake to 16-0 setting a record for the best start in school history, something even Tim Duncan couldn’t do (13-0 was Wake’s best start with Duncan).

So how has a team unranked in the preseason moved into the Top 5 with a 16-0 start?

Big 12 South Arrested & Charged with Fraud

All we heard about this college football season was the gunslingers from the West and the high-powered, high-oiled Big 12 South offensive machines. Choke-lahoma regularly scoring 40 in the first half, the resurgence of Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and the “Air Raid”, Texas and Colt McCoy putting up massive numbers.

Every Saturday night (it seemed), we had to watch each installment of the Big 12 South showdowns. Brent Musberger roaring about the offensive proficiency and how good these teams seemed to be. This season was the Big 12’s moment. This was their time to shine….

Until the bowl season came upon us.

College Football Predictions: Week 13 (Part II)

Earlier this week in Part I, I gave you my predictions for some big time conference matchups on Wednesday and Thursday nights. I was right about Ball State remaining undefeated, but I was shocked by the performance of Georgia Tech last night.

The Ramblin’ Wreck absolutely destroyed Miami with their triple option attack as they piled up 472 rushing yards…yea, 472 rushing yards! I should have known better than to take an ACC squad their first week entering the Top 25, but I was completely unprepared for Miami’s inability to play assignment football.

No problems, though, as I am completely prepared to predict the rest of Week 13’s dynamite college football games:

Don’t Do It To Me Vandy!

Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, I have always been a fan of Vanderbilt athletics. I know that for many of you living outisde the middle Tennessee area, the idea of an actual Vandy sports fans is a myth. Believe it or not, I was actually a season ticket holder for three sports up until I left town to attend college.

Like myself, all Vanderbilt fans have certainly experienced many tough times over the past quarter century, especially on the football field. I, for one, am two years removed from graduating college, and have still yet to, in my life, witness the football team record a winning season (the last occurring in 1982).

However, 2008 looked like it was going to be the year.

The Blue Workhorse Week 11 College Football Top 25

Texas Tech was impressive once again as they dominated a strong Oklahoma State team 56-20. Alabama escaped a tough road contest in Baton Rouge. Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma all were dominant in conference wins.

The big upset, however, came in Kinnick Stadium as the Iowa Hawkeyes knocked off former BCS top contender Penn State thanks to Daniel Murray’s game-winning kick.

Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 10. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:

The Blue Workhorse Week 8 College Football Top 25

With their blowout of Missouri, Texas solidified the #1 spot (if anyone was wavering last week) and Colt McCoy showed he is Heisman material. A lot of teams at the back end of the Top 25 suffered upsets this week, so there are a number of new teams and teams re-entering the Top 25.
