College Baseball Regional Previews: Atlanta, GA

Atlanta Regional

1. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (35-17-1) vs 4. Georgia State Panthers (39-20)
2. Elon Phoenix (40-16) vs 3. Southern Miss Golden Eagles (35-23)

Winner to take on champion of Gainesville Regional.

Head Coach Danny Hall brings another talented Yellow Jacket ball club into postseason play in 2009. The Jackets are led by All-American starting pitcher Deck McGuire.

McGuire (10-1, 3.15 ERA) has been the Tech ace all season, and will likely be a first-round selection in next week’s draft. Past McGuire, the Jackets will look for quality starts from Brandon Cumpton and Zach Von Tersch, who have been steady all season. They also feature a solid bullpen, which includes four pitchers with ERA’s under 4.00. Offensively, Luke Murton (.363, 18 HR, 57 RBI) and Tony Flagman (.357, 16 HR, 67 RBI) lead an offense that has a team average of .318.

College Baseball Regional Previews: Cary, NC

On Monday, the NCAA announced the 64 collegiate baseball teams to earn the honor to be a part of the Division I national tournament, which will begin Friday at noon when the Missouri Tigers take on the Ole Miss Rebels. In preview of the regional tournaments that will be held this weekend, throughout the week our resident college baseball fanatic Rosenblogger will examine each individual regional:

Cary Regional

1. North Carolina Tar Heels (46-12) vs 4. Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers (21-32)
2. UNC Wilmington Seahawks (42-15) vs 3. Elon Phoenix (43-16)
