The Blue Workhorse

With only two weekends remaining in the NFL’s regular season, the playoff picture couldn’t have been more muddled. Some teams just needed to win; some just needed other teams to lose; while others were in the unfortunate position of needing to win and receive help from others.

However, with Indianapolis winning against an emotionally charged Jacksonville team (thanks to the return of injured lineman Richard Collier to the sideline as an honorary captain) Thursday night and Baltimore’s running game dominating the Cowboys’ defense late in the fourth quarter Saturday, the playoff picture began to see the Windex going to work.

There were some critical matchups this past weekend, and the battles only get tougher this weekend as both conferences’ #1 seed will be determined. Also, several games, if not all, will have baring on the playoff race this weekend.

In Pittsburgh, Tony Romo gave away the game and a chance for Dallas to increase their chances for a wild card berth. In New York, the Eagles upset the Giants amid the Plaxico Burress swirling mess. In Seattle, Matt Cassel slipped the Pats by the Seahawks.

In Baltimore, the Ravens dominated Washington to make it official that they are legit. And in Carlotte, the Panthers scored 21 fourth quarter points to set themselves up to control their owndestiny for the #1 seed in the NFC.

With the Thanksgiving holidays last week, we did not get an opportunity to produce our weekly NFL power rankings, but we’re back and better than ever this week.

There is plenty of movement in this week’s rankings with Atlanta and Baltimore moving back into the Top 10 while Arizona falls out of the Top 10 after residing in the Top 5 previously thanks to losses to New York and Philadelphia.

A lot of close games this past week. In fact, only 3 games had a margin of victory greater than 10 points. The big winners: the Jets and the Cowboys both scored huge divisional victories while Denver victory over Atlanta (combined with San Diego’s loss) gives the Broncos a commanding lead in the AFC West.

At the top of the rankings, the top four teams remain the same with the Tennessee Titans. After that there is plenty of shakeup led by big gains from Dallas and Indianapolis while teams 10-13 all fell after being Top 10 teams last week.

With close wins, the Jets and Vikings both jump up 6 spots. Ok, so the Jets win wasn’t so close. But the Vikes won a critical divisional game against the Packers, who fell 10 spots with the loss.

At the top of the rankings, there is only a swap of the #3 & #4 positions with the Titans and Giants remaining at the summit of our poll. The top five are a signal ofthe rest of the poll as this week’s rankings are a lot more stable than most weeks.

We weren’t able to produce our weekly power rankings last week due to Internet access issues here at home base, but we’re back with The Blue Workhorse Week 9 NFL Power Rankings. The top four spots are unanimous with the Titans remaining #1.

The Bills got a big win against San Diego showing that the Bills are ready for the big stage while the Dallas Cowboys looked atrocious against a St. Louis team that until 2 weeks ago appeared to be in the running for the worst NFL team ever.
