There is often a Cinderella-type story at the NFL’s Combine every year that gets an unlikely invite and makes a few waves. Mel Kiper gives the guy his own feature on Draft Day, he gets selected on the second day of the draft, and maybe makes it as a semi-successful professional backup.

This year, however, the Cinderella story, Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco may end up being a steal in the draft. The 6-foot-6 inch (and 3/8ths) fellow-who-is-quite-tall is also 236 pounds, and according to FanHouse’s Michael David Smith, Flacco says he plans to run his 40-yard dash somewhere between 4.6-4.7 seconds.

While those numbers don’t show how well Flacco can read a defense or how acute his pocket presence is, they do show that the quarterback, who transfered from the University of Pittsburgh, has prototypical size for a NFL quarterback. His arm strength most likely will be the number one aspect in the determination of what round (1-3) Flacco will be drafted, but it’s believed he has NFL arm strength as well.

After throwing for 4200 yards and 23 touchdowns for Delaware this past season, Flacco is just happy to possibly be a first round pick: “Was I thinking about being a first-round pick at this time last year? No,” said Flacco. “I was thinking about being a draft pick, period. Anywhere that I’m picked, I’m going to be happy.”

He’s going to be happy being drafted, and I’ll be happy that a player from a small school is going to have the opportunity to make a splash in the NFL.
