The Blue Workhorse Week 9 College Football Top 25
Oklahoma State really gave Texas a run for their money. Unfortunately, for the Cowboys, Texas still reigns supreme in the land as they hung on for the 28-24 victory. In the other matchup of top ten teams, Georgia dominated LSU despite having an offensive line that was supposed to get dominated. So much for those experts.
Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 8. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:
- The top four remain the same, but Texas Tech makes a jump up to #5.
- Despite their loss, Oklahoma State holds the same spot at #8.
- New squads: Florida State crashes in at #17 after crashing Virginia Tech’s quarterbacks all game last Saturday. There are three other familiar squads bounding into the rankings. North Carolina, Michigan State, and Oregon all make a return to our Top 25 after being on the outside looking in for the past few weeks.
- Biggest gainer: Florida State jumps into our rankings at #17, but the biggest gainer of teams ranked last week are the Golden Gophers of Minnesota.
- Biggest loser: While LSU dropped six spots after losing to Knowshon Moreno and company, South Florida’s second loss in three weeks causes them to fall 11 spots.
- The non-BCS strikes: The non-BCS moves back into the Top 10 as Utah takes the final slot. Right behind the Utes are Boise State and TCU.
- Teams by conference: Big XII - 5; SEC - 4; Big 10 - 4; ACC - 3; MWC - 3; Pac 10 - 2; WAC - 1; Big East - 1; C-USA - 1; MAC - 1.
What the Voters Have to Say:
- DRang: “Minnesota’s head coach Tim Brewster could be the national coach of the year.”
- Heisman: “While Oklahoma St. proved themselves worthy of much of the hype Saturday, Texas better get some things ironed out or they could be kissing that number one ranking goodbye after this weekend’s trip to Lubbock.”
- Rosenblogger: “Oklahoma State earned a lot of respect by giving such a valiant effort in almost upsetting the #1 team in the nation in Austin.”
- Shotgun Spratling: “Could Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno both win their respective conferences and then call it quits after the season?”
Others receiving votes: Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland
Dropped out: Georgia Tech (LW: 17), Pittsburgh (LW: 19), Kansas (LW: 20), Virginia Tech (LW: 25)

Really Heisman? No Ball State in the Top 25? How do you justify not putting an 8-0 team in the Top 25? Isn’t football about winning?
And LSU at #12? Even as a Georgia fan, who would want them to be the best team in the nation since we just drilled them, I can still tell you that LSU isn’t the #12 team in the nation. They are weak (barely beating Auburn) and they’ve gotten wiped against both teams they’ve played that are in the top 25.

Yes. Ball State needs to be in the top 25. However, I can’t wait to see the Texas Tech and Texas game. I know will Muschamp will have a good scheme for the Raiders, but there should be plenty of offensive firepower. I would not be surprised if Texas Tech won the football game.

You may have a point on LSU. However, their two losses may have very well come to two Top 5 programs when its all said and done. I don’t think Ball State has played anybody that has played anybody in the Top 5. Is Indiana their best win so far?

Ball State beat Navy (who destroyed formerly ranked Wake Forest) by 12 holding them scoreless for the final 28 minutes of the game. Navy also beat 6-2 Air Force.
Indiana beat a ranked Northwestern team last weekend. Ball State beat the Hoosiers by 22.
Ball State shutout Toledo 31-0. Toledo beat Michigan in The Big House and lost in overtime to a ranked Fresno State squad on a failed 2-pt conversion.
Plus, it’s not like the Cardinals are slipping by any of their opponents. Their closest game so far was the win over Navy. Their average margin of victory = 22 points.
They still have Northern Illinois (who should have beat Tennessee) and the directional Michigan schools (Central & Western), who could each take down Ball State, but expect the Cardinals to be undefeated when they play for the MAC title.

You made my point for me…none of those teams are ranked my friend. They have not beaten anyone. There may be a strong disagreeing opinion with my assesment, but I hate to inform you that yours is weaker than my girlfriends Jack and Coke.

Undefeated Texas Tech
Undefeated Utah
6-2 Missouri
5-2 LSU
6-1 Florida State
7-1 BYU
undefeated Tulsa
7-1 Minnesota
6-2 UNC
7-2 Michigan State
6-2 Oregon
6-2 South Florida
Above are 12 teams in our current Top 25 that have not beaten a team that is currently ranked in the Top 25.
And just for comparison’s sake: Tulsa has the same record as Ball State. Tulsa’s most impressive win has to be the one over their only opponent that currently has a record above .500 (Rice at 5-3). None of Tulsa’s opponents are ranked in the Top 25, have been ranked in the Top 25, or have beaten anyone that has at any time this season been in the Top 25. The best win by one of Tulsa’s opponents: New Mexico beat Arizona (who has not been ranked).
Yet, you have Tulsa ranked at #15. Your logic appears to be as flawed as you giving your girl a Jack & Coke as she’s obviously had too much to drink if she’s with you.
