The Blue Workhorse Week 8 College Football Top 25
With their blowout of Missouri, Texas solidified the #1 spot (if anyone was wavering last week) and Colt McCoy showed he is Heisman material. A lot of teams at the back end of the Top 25 suffered upsets this week, so there are a number of new teams and teams re-entering the Top 25.
Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 8. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:
- With BYU’s loss, several teams move up at least one spot, but the Top 5 remain the same.
- There are four new squads in the Top 25: TCU catapults to #15 after destroying BYU and Pittsburgh comes in at #19. While TCU and Pitt are returning, Minnesota and Boston College are both making their first appearance of the year.
- Biggest gainer: TCU jumps to #15, but the biggest gainer of teams ranked last week is Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech, who move up 7 spots.
- Biggest loser: While there were a handful of teams that fell, the Cougars from BYU are the biggest losers this week falling 12 spots after TCU crushed them.
- The non-BCS strikes: The non-BCS gains yet another spot in the Top 25 with TCU moving into the rankings.
- Teams by conference: Big XII - 6; SEC - 4; ACC - 3; Big 10 - 3; MWC - 3; Pac 10 - 1; WAC - 1; Big East - 2; C-USA - 1; MAC - 1.
What the Voters Have to Say:
- DRang: “Penn State won big over Michigan, but they will have to show up for the first and second half to win in Columbus.”
- Heisman: “I think Missouri will lose at least two more games this year. The last two losses have been too devastating to rebound from, and Chase Daniel is one of the more overrated players right now.”
- Rosenblogger: “Who’s questioning Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson now?”
- Shotgun Spratling: “Tulsa may be the most entertaining team in America. With two sevens on the board last week (77 points), they improved their nation best scoring average to 56 points per game. That offense will be on display Sunday night on national television (8 PM, ESPN), and since there isn’t a Sunday night NFL game, there’s no reason not to be watching the Golden Hurricane.”
Others receiving votes: Florida State, Northwestern
Dropped out: Michigan State (LW: 18), North Carolina (LW: 20), Wake Forest (LW: 21), Vanderbilt (LW: 23)

This looks like a solid ranking, pretty close to what we have over at Walker-Sports.net. I am impressed that you put TCU so high after their win over BYU. I mean it was a good win, but still. Also, I am curious to see what happens with Ball State, I have no idea what to do with them, especially if they keep winning.
