The Blue Workhorse Week 7 College Football Top 25
A lot of shakeup in the Top 10 after two huge battles in the Big XII saw the underdogs win with Texas rallying to take down former #1 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry and Oklahoma State upending previous #4 Missouri.
Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 7. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:
- Of the top 11 teams, only Alabama remains in the same spot as last week. The idle Crimson Tide were jumped by Texas but remained ahead of the rest in the #2 spot.
- Undefeated Ball State (7-0) moves into the rankings for the first time. The Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech also finds themselves in the Top 25 despite sliding past FCS Gardner-Webb last week.
- Biggest gainer: Mike Gundy and company got a great win as Oklahoma State downed Mizzou. The win catapulted them up 12 spots in our rankings. Now, the Pokes must take on a brutal remaining schedule as they attempt to remain undefeated.
- Biggest loser: Last week, Vanderbilt was the talk of the nation. This week, Vanderbilt is our biggest loser dropping 10 spots after losing to Mississippi State.
- The non-BCS strikes: The non-BCS gains another spot in the Top 25 with Ball State moving into the rankings.
- Teams by conference: Big XII - 6; SEC - 5; ACC - 4; Big 10 - 3; MWC - 2; Pac 10 - 1; WAC - 1; Big East - 1; C-USA - 1; MAC - 1.
What the Voters Have to Say:
- DRang: “Butch Davis is a great college football coach and UNC is a legit ACC contender.”
- Heisman: “I’m not surprised at the LSU loss, but I am surprised at how bad it was. I still believe Florida has a great chance to make it back to the championship game. Hopefully, Vandy can rebound from their first loss and continue the great turnaround job by Bobby Johnson.”
- Rosenblogger: “The Gators are right back in the national title mix after defeating LSU. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will not only help determine the SEC East but possibly also the national title competitors.”
- Shotgun Spratling: “All it takes is a little time and people will forget about a loss. Just ask USC. Three weeks ago they were written off after losing to Oregon State, and even though they haven’t really been impressive since that loss, the Trojans continue to climb up the polls. I haven’t forgotten though. They’re still outside my Top 10.”
Others receiving votes: Texas Christian, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Arizona
Dropped out: Auburn (LW: 22), Illinois (LW: 25)
