The Blue Workhorse Week 2 College Football Top 25
East Carolina shocked the nation. After upsetting Virginia Tech in Week 1 using BeamerBall against coach Frank Beamer’s own squad, the Pirates thoroughly dominated the West Virginia Mountaineers just physically manhandling the preseason Big East front runner.
East Carolina’s quick start makes them the leading candidate to be the BCS buster this season and could potentially make the Conference USA championship game a battle of unbeaten squads between the Pirates and either Tulsa or Rice.
What if Utah or BYU also goes undefeated in the Mountain West Conference? What if Fresno State or Boise State goes undefeated in the Western Athletic Conference? If there were three undefeated BCS busters, what would the BCS do? The system might explode like a time bomb. Well, we’ll have to wait and see.
Another week means another re-evalution, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 2. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:
- East Carolina does their best Alabama impersonation leaping into the Top 15 in our poll after not being ranked the previous week.
- The only other team to join the rankings for the first time is ECU’s conference foe, Tulsa.
- Of our previously ranked teams, several teams moved up two spots, but Illinois gained one more position to be our biggest jump from #25 to #22.
- Illinois better watch out though because it appears being ranked #22 in our poll is a bad omen. Last week, Ole Miss and Clemson were tied at #22. Both also fell out of the rankings this week.
- Ohio State dropped two spots and out of the Top 5 after their poor showing against Ohio. Moving up thanks to the Buckeyes’ disappointment, Georgia and LSU. The addition of the two SEC squads gives the conference three Top 5 teams.
- While having them ranked #10 and #14, respectively, DRang says he is still waiting to see if Big 12 upstarts Texas Tech and Kansas are for real.
- Heisman is not sold on the Georgia Bulldogs. He ranks them in at #9 once again and claims them to be the most overrated team he has seen in a while.
- Rosenblogger is fervently behind Florida. What did he think about their game against Miami? He saw the Gator defense look very tough, and shows no worries about the offense as “the offense has never been a concern.”
- What does a near loss to the team picked to finish 6th in the MAC? According to Shotgun Spratling, it nearly gets you dropped out of the Top 10 as he ranked Ohio State in the final slot at #10.
Others receiving votes: Navy, Clemson, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Utah, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Dropped out: Clemson (LW: 22), Ole Miss (LW: 22)
