The Blue Workhorse Week 12 College Football Top 25
While their weren’t any true marquee games this week, Oregon State did beat Cal positioning themselves even further for the Pac-10 title. Coach Mike Riley has quietly put together a solid season after the Beavers started terribly slow.
In other conference races: no one wants to win the ACC; the Big 10 is Penn State’s to lose; the SEC & WAC races are already over; and the Big East, Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt, and Big XII could be all but determined this weekend.
Congrats to Rosenblogger and his Vanderbilt Commodores as they have become bowl eligible for the first time in his lifetime. Bobby Johnson is a great coach who wins the right way, and we applaud his accomplishment.
Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 11. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:
- The top 8 teams in our poll got exactly the same votes they received last week. Don’t expect that to be the case next week.
- There was a shuffling of spots 10-13. While two teams remain tied at #10 with 59 points, it is last week’s #12 & #13.
- New squads: After defeating Virginia Tech in a close battle Thursday night, the Miami Hurricanes make their first appearance in The Blue Workhorse Top 25. Fellow ACC squads Boston College & Maryland rejoin the top 25.
- Biggest gainer: With their win over California, a team they had not beat at home in six years, Oregon State gains 6 spots up to #19.
- Biggest loser: North Carolina falls 7 spots after their 17-15 loss to Maryland.
- The non-BCS strikes: Utah and Boise State still sit at #7 & #8 while BYU and Ball State are also in the Top 15.
- Teams by conference: Big XII - 5; SEC - 4; ACC - 4; Big 10 - 3; MWC - 3; Pac 10 - 2; Big East - 2; WAC - 1; MAC - 1.
What the Voters Have to Say:
- DRang: “Coach Randy Shannon has put the “U” back on the map with young superstars leading the way.”
- Heisman: “Could the Rose Bowl really be a rematch of the Penn State blow out of Oregon State earlier this season? “
- Rosenblogger: “A huge game in the MAC on Wednesday. If you want to watch some good football, don’t miss undefeated Ball State vs 8-2 Central Michigan to decide the division title.”
- Shotgun Spratling: “I’m still baffled after seeing the highlights of the Troy/LSU game. First, I don’t know how LSU got behind 31-3 & second, I sure as hell don’t know how they scored 30 points in the 4th quarter behind Jarrett Lee, a QB that’s thrown more INT than touchdowns with 8 of those INTs going for 6 points for the opposition.”
Others receiving votes: Oregon, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Central Michigan
Dropped out: Florida State (LW: 20), Tulsa (LW: 22) South Carolina (LW: 23)

Really Heisman? So now you are rewarding a team for getting down 31-3 at home to an inferior team from an inferior conference. I know LSU came back against Troy, but a 3 loss team that should have lost to Troy ahead of 1 loss BYU and 2 loss TCU & Michigan State and even undefeated Ball State?

I guess Heisman thinks that LSU is better than TCU, BYU, and Michigan St. I could see that argument, and I think LSU would beat TCU, BYU and Michigan St, even though the games would be close. Also, LSU had a letdown after taking #1 Alabama to OT the week before. I could see their spirits being down after the tough loss and Troy played them tough, so give Troy the credit. (They played Ohio St. tough as well)

LSU plays any of the three teams you mentioned, and Miles’ boys emerge victorious. I try not and get caught up in the Sportcenteresque whims when I produce my rankings. Instead, I try and focus on the meat and potatos of what happens on the field. Maybe you produce your rankings differently. I will try to not hold that against you.
