Texas Tech was impressive once again as they dominated a strong Oklahoma State team 56-20. Alabama escaped a tough road contest in Baton Rouge. Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma all were dominant in conference wins.

The big upset, however, came in Kinnick Stadium as the Iowa Hawkeyes knocked off former BCS top contender Penn State thanks to Daniel Murray’s game-winning kick.

Another week means another re-evaluation, and thus, we give you our new The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25 after Week 10. Some things to note from this week’s rankings:

  • The losses of Penn State and Oklahoma State allow 6 teams to move up in the top 10.
  • Even though their losses were to a #1 (Texas) and #2 (Texas Tech) ranked teams, Oklahoma State fell below three other 2-loss teams.
  • New squads: With their win over West Virginia, Cincinnati moves into the Top 25 for the first time. Repeat top 25ers that rejoin the elite squads are Pittsburgh, South Carolina, and Oregon State.
  • Biggest gainer: Surprisingly, Georgia is one of three teams that are tied for the biggest gainer. Despite escaping from Lexington with a win, the Bulldogs moved up three spots. Two ACC squads, North Carolina and Florida State also gained three spots.
  • Biggest loser: After falling to unranked Iowa, Penn State not only dropped seven spot but also fell out of contention for playing in the national championship game.
  • The non-BCS strikes: After Utah beat last week’s #11 TCU, the Utes moved up to #7 (the highest a non-BCS team has ranked in The Blue Wotrkhorse Top 25.
  • Teams by conference: Big XII - 5; SEC - 5; Big 10 - 3; MWC - 3; ACC - 2;   Pac 10 - 2;  Big East - 2; WAC - 1; C-USA - 1; MAC - 1.

What the Voters Have to Say:

  • DRang: “The Oregon State Beavers quietly control their own destiny in the Pac-10 race.”
  • Heisman: “My championship game prediction (Florida vs Oklahoma) still stands strong, partially due to Penn State’s choke job. Also, I want to give a shout out to my MAC boys at Central Michigan for squeezing the “Juice” out of the Illini.”
  • Rosenblogger: “Somehow the BCS appears it will work itself out this year. Florida will take on Alabama and the winner should match up for the title with the winner of the Big 12 South, but that just seems too easy.”
  • Shotgun Spratling: “Oklahoma is averaging 35.5 points…in the first half! That’s more than 99 other FBS teams were averaging per game coming into Week 10. Are you ready for a possible 100+ point shootout when the #5 Sooners take on #2 Texas Tech in Norman, OK in two weeks?”
