My selections the last two weeks have been lackluster at best, but with the more crucial the games…the better I have been this year, so I’m looking for a big week with some big time Top 5 and Top 15 matchups this weekend.

So what kind of predictions do I have this week? Probably the best you’ve ever seen, but we’ll start with Wednesday and Thursday nights games in Part I (with predictions for Saturday’s games to be released in Part II on Friday).

(all rankings from are from The Blue Workhorse College Football Top 25)

#15 Ball State at Central Michigan

Will Ball State succumb to the curse of the #15 ranking? This season 5 of the 8 teams that have held the #15 spot in our poll have been upset, including last week’s #15 — North Carolina.

Central Michigan comes into the game with an 8-2 record with their only losses coming at Georgia in the season opener and in the final minute at Purdue. They are led by junior QB Dan LeFevour, who accounted for more total yards than Tim Tebow last season.

Ball State’s veteran quarterback, Nate Davis, will have to match LeFevour if the Cardinals expect to win a school record 11th game. However, unlike LeFevour, Davis has stellar running game behind him, so it will not all be on his shoulders.

Both teams are undefeated in MAC play and played in the middle of the week last week, so there is no clear cut favorite in this battle that will determine who will represent the West division in the MAC Championship Game. Ball State needs a win to keep their outside BCS hopes alive.

Ball State wins as long as they can open up a comfortable lead. If they let the Chippewas hang around, Central Michigan could easily pull off the upset as they are used to close ball games (having won five games by 3 points or less and only one by more than 10 points)

#22 Miami at Georgia Tech

In the ACC, the norm has become upsets. The teams that appear to be the hottest and the most solid one week have become upset fodder the next. So who is the hottest team in the conference? The Miami Hurricanes, of course.

Plus, this will be Miami’s first week in the Top 25, which hasn’t been a good week for ACC teams this season. Just ask Georgia Tech…or North Carolina…or Maryland…or Florida State…or Clemson.

Georgia Tech has lost 2 of their past 3, and should have lost against Florida State if not for a Marcus Sims’ fumble as he was heading into the end zone.

Will Miami suffer the same fate as their other conference mates? Or can the Hurricanes all but book their tickets to Tampa for the ACC Championship Game? This season’s history says the “U” will fall on Thursday night. I think Miami bucks the trend and wins on the road.

Check back for Part II of college football’s Week 13 predictions on Friday as I give you the winners of each of Saturday’s critical games with all the Top 25 contests, including these great matchups:

#2 Texas Tech at #5 Oklahoma

#14 Brigham Young at #7 Utah

#16 Michigan State at #9 Penn State

#21 Pittsburgh at #20 Cincinnati
