Boston College: Please Hire Me

Jeff Jagodzinski is an idiot.
He has every right to be an idiot, but that does not make him any less of an idiot. He put himself in the position to lose a job where he has been in the conference championship the past two years just to interview for a job, I believe, he has no chance of getting.
Maybe he has won with Tom O’Brien’s players and wants to get out of Chestnut Hill before the storm comes. Maybe he will be the next head coach of the New York Jets. Maybe Boston College will eventually regret firing Coach Jagodzinski and scare away any quality potential candidates for coaching vacancies in the future.
This is what I do know: I want to be the next head coach at Boston College.
The loyalty Boston College shows their coaches and players is what they demand in return. They continuously are the exception to the rule by consistently leading the NCAA with the rate at which their football players graduate. Without being educated on the details of their support system, one can only imply it must provide unparalleled resources to its players and continuous diligence in making sure its players are honoring the student in the moniker student-athlete.
The academic rigors and demands of Boston College make recruiting interesting to say the least for any coach of an Eagles program. However, Boston College has placed an enormous amount of capital into BC’s facilities in order for Boston College to stay competitive with the rival schools in the ACC.
The Yawkey Center and Alumni Stadium are modern facilities that can match up those rival programs. These facilities are just one aspect that illustrate the dedication the administration has to providing resources to a coach in order to be a competitive program on a National Stage.
In exchange for this loyalty, all Boston College asked Coach Jagodzinski to do is show loyalty to the university and not contact an NFL team regarding employment for three years. This is America and Coach Jagodzinski has the right to talk to anyone about a job as long as he is willing to realize the possibility of jeopardizing the status of his employment with his current employer.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for what Boston College football stands for and commits its resources towards. I believe it is refreshing for an administration to stand up and challenge a coach in an era of the perpetual coaching carousel. While many feel Boston College may be hard pressed to find a coach willing to commit in the degree they desire to the Eagles’ football program, I have the perfect solution: Hire me.

I’ve been around and close to the BC program for a while now, dating back to the Tom O’Brian days. I don’t blame Coach Jag for doing what he did. He is an NFL guy, and I highly doubt he will not land an NFL position. Even if he misses the Jets job (which he is likely to do) he will land in Seattle that is almost a shew in.
As far as BC goes, that is a program that is on the downward trend. I know that sounds crazy with, the recent success they have had. But two years ago that was a loaded team with Matt Ryan. This past season they far outplayed expectations and did what no one thought was possible, and they did it in a painfully mediocre ACC. Yet even with that they still could not beat the average Va. Tech team.
I think that Coach Jag knew his stock could not get any higher and if he was ever going to make it back to the NFL where he wants to be, then he had to strike when teh iron was hot.

It is nice to get some feedback from someone who is close to the program. I am only looking at this as a casual observer from SEC land. I did mention the fact that Jags wants to get out before the decline of which you speak. I believe this is the very reason the AD wants someone who is going to stay there for a prolonged period. He wants a steady hand to guide the ship through the down turn and steer it to the rainbow following the storm. BC is one of the few schools that understands the reality that your program cannot win a championship every year and will not put that type of pressure on a coach. The administration wants a competitive team that has a chance to compete for a championship when those special groups of athletes make their way through the program, while espousing to higher standards in academics and other off of the field endeavors.

Yeah, I totally hear where you are coming from. My only problem with it is, the last time the Eagles mattered when it came to college football Doug Floutie was playing QB, and I was 2 years old. I’m also pretty sure their AD was not there then. I agree that BC is about education first, and that is a very good thing. But, I have a feeling he is hurting his program in the long run.

Regardless of whose right or wrong, the AD left no doubt as to who is calling the shots at BC. I would suppose he is also the kind of guy who would back you to the hilt if you were completely on board with him and the university. Now hire someone who will always defeat Ga. Tech!
