Sunday Sports Selections: Anti-Red Sox/Yanks T-Shirts
In the Sunday Sports Selection series, we showcase a sports-related product (gadget, book, film, equipment, etc.) that we have enjoyed and think you may find of interest as well.
For half of the baseball fans that come across this post, they are going to hate that I featured these shirts that they would find despicable. For the other half? Well, they probably are going to think these shirts are great ideas.
This is because half of baseball fans are either Boston Red Sox fans or New York Yankees fans (or at least it seems that way), and if you are a baseball fan, you typically either are a fan of one of those two teams or hate both of those teams.
I am of the latter group. I never really liked the Red Sox and hated the Yankees for beating my Braves in the World Series, but after interning with one of the Tampa Bay (no longer Devil) Rays’ minor league teams last summer, I became a diehard Rays’ fan.
With that revelation came an absolute disdain for both the Red Sox and Yankees…and now I’ve found some great t-shirts that can be worn to show that disdain: Rays Index’s collection of RAYSHEAD shirts.
Within Rays Index’s RAYSHEAD t-shirt collection, there are several shirts that have “RAYSHEAD” on the front with star players’ numbers and nicknames on the back (with my favorite being Evan Longoria’s #3 shirt that read “Dirtbag” on the back, which is the nickname Rays Index writer Cork Gaines gave Longoria due to him being a former Long Beach State Dirtbag), but they also have shirts that are directed straight at division rivals New York and Boston.
While I personally am not a big fan of switching the first letters of two words to ensure that there isn’t explicit cursing (I find it to be a high school move), I still like taking shots at the Rays’ hated divisional rivals and two of the three most popular baseball franchises worldwide (the other being the Chicago Cubs).
I would prefer a shirt that just says “Red Sox Suck” or the more likely “Boston Sucks” (since using the team name would probably be copyright infingement). But what makes these shirts even better, and a true treasure, is that the shirts take a shot on the back as well with the Boston shirt awesomely reading “It Won’t Take Us 86 Years.”
The Rays Index store has these shirts available in men’s and women’s and are a must have for any Tampa Bay (no longer Devil) Rays’ fan or for someone who just wants to hate on the Yankees and Red Sox.
