In his rookie season, Philadelphia Phillies’ starter Kyle Kendrick’s career got off to a great start after a mid-season call up when he went 10-4 with a 3.87 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 129 IP over 20 starts. Kendrick was even throwing well enough for manager Charlie Manuel to give him the nod to start Game 2 of the Divisional Series against the Colorado Rockies, who would go on to win the National League crown.

But nothing from his rookie season prepared Kendrick for a trade that would send him half way around the globe…

With so much going on in the world of sports at the end of January and in the month of February (Superbowl, NHL All-Star Weekend, NBA All-Star Weekend, Daytona 500, beginning of Spring Training), it’s always fun to take a moment to look at the lighter side of the sports scene.

It appears we can thank fellow pitcher Brett Myers, along with the supporting cast of Charlie Manuel, assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr., and the members of the media. Kendrick takes it in as Myers says, “hook, line, and sinker.”

My favorite part is when Myers asks Kendrick, who is obviously still reeling from the shock of the incident, if the guy who he’s being traded for “throws hard or does he have a good sinker?” Great stuff for a Monday morning!
