Preparing to Win Another Contest - Cuzoogle’s Pigskin Picks

Recently, we’ve been lucky enough to win a few contests:

* a few radio contests thanks to the advice from Earn on the Side
* Buddy’s Contest at Buddy’s Fitness News
* $500 gift card from the Big Marketing Blog thanks to Market Leverage (well, they’ll receive my thanks once they actually get into contact with me)
* Entrecards and advertisements from Time for a Smile’s A Celebration of Smiles Contest
* Busted Coverage’s Cleaning Out the Shitter Library, which won us a book (which I’m hoping didn’t get lost in the mail)

And now it is time for us to win another!

Except this time it will take more than just random luck. It’ll take a little skill. Of course, we are leading in the Babes Love Baseball fantasy baseball league against other baseball blogs, so expect nothing different.

Our latest contest conquest will come at the hands of 24 other blogs as we compete in Cuzoogle’s NFL Pigskin Picks challenge.

Football Fever Starting to Hit Home

It’s official.

I’ve gotten caught up in football fever.

I usually don’t get too excited about football until late October or November. Sure, I actively watch the beginning of the college and pro seasons Saturdays and Sundays, but I’m usually engulfed in the baseball pennant races and playoffs.

Not this year, though.

(Jason) Taylor-Made Awkwardness

It was the same for Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, even Patrick Ewing, and it will be the same for Brett Favre if he plays for anyone not known for having Cheeseheads in the stands.

There is something that just doesn’t feel right about picturing Babe Ruth in a Braves uniform or Jordan in a Wizards jersey. And the same is the case for longtime Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor in his new Washington Redskins’ digs.

However, besides looking unusual in a Redskins’ helmet, Taylor’s presence has created a weird awkwardness. It is nothing Taylor can be blamed for, but it is instead all in a name. His last name to be exact.

NFL Preseason Power Rankings

Our friend James over at NE Patriots Draft asked us to participate in his “Sports Blog NFL Power Rankings,” and naturally, we jumped at the opportunity to show off our advanced abilities at ranking teams (or something like that).

James has each person’s rankings listed and something interesting that each person had to say. Needless to say, however, our rankings are a little bit different than the other 4 blogs that participated.

Here are our rankings and below are what we had to say about some select teams:

BREAKING NEWS: Favre Signs With Falcons

In an unthinkable move, the Green Bay Packers have granted Brett Favre his release — a move general manager Ted Thompson just recently claimed the team would not do. Why the change of heart from the organization?

The Packers agreed to conditionally release Favre. The iron man quarterback’s release from the team he has spent 16 years with was contingent upon conditions set forth by Green Bay.

The main condition of the release was the list of possible destinations for Favre. The list included 15 teams, none of which had a winning record last season. Not included were any of Green Bay’s NFC North rivals or teams that would be considered favorites to compete for the NFC title this season.

My Raging Man Crush

At one point, I might have married Brett Favre.

Not that I am averse to the female gender, but, instead, why would I not want to spend the rest of my life with one of the most exciting NFL players and seemingly coolest guy ever?

“The Next Reggie Bush”

Evidently, this video has been on the web for a while now, but I just saw it the other day, so I figured I’d share it with anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

I won’t go as far as calling this kid the “next Reggie Bush” (plus we don’t want people to remember this kid just for his girlfriend) or even the “next Sam McGuffie,” but the video was entertaining at the least, so maybe he can be the “next great white 8-year old hope” or something like that.

A Question of Commitment

Plastered over many sports-news outlets recently was the story of the Denver Broncos’ recent release of Travis Henry. Included has been much ado over his year-old contract, originally worth $22.5 million over 5 years, and the Broncos organization still choosing to part ways with the former Pro Bowl running back.

Head coach Mike Shanahan’s given reason for the departure of Henry? According the Shanahan, Henry’s behavior seemed to express a “lack of commitment” to the Broncos’ organization.

But, the story should not be that Shanahan and the front office released Henry. It should, instead, be why the Broncos even signed the troubled back to a lucrative long-term contract in the first place. Previous signs of “lack of commitment” were evident well before Henry inked his 2007 free agent contract.
