Athletes Want to Win… & So Should You

In sports, there is occasionally a feel good story about the person that just finishes the race, but more traditionally…sports are about winning. Athletes are bred to want to win…and now you should want to win as well:

Our good friend, Kellex, over at The Sports Dollar is holding The Contest of Sports Sexiness where you can win a ton of prizes. (Unfortunately, Natalie Gulbis is not one of them.)

This is such a great contest that even we had to get in on it by sponsoring a prize. Here’s the list of participating blogs and all the prizes you can win:

Here’s to You: Skip Carey

Skip told it like he saw it without the sugar coating or unnecessary fluff many of today’s announcers choose to use. He was unafraid to state his opinion, whatever it may have been, and had no remorse if you didn’t agree. He hated the Wave and when anyone called in on sports talk radio and asked about the Infield Fly Rule. He knew baseball and seemingly where every fan in the stands hailed from as he would announce the hometown of whomever was lucky enough to catch a foul ball.

The Blue Workhorse Goes to New York

That’s right folks, we’re hitting the road. As of Thursday night/early Friday morning, half of the staff of this site along with three other companions will be on the road for half a day as we travel to New York City (well, technically we are staying in New Jersey).

Why drive 10-15 hours? Why travel to New York?

It’s actually quite simple: the hallowed grounds of the “House that Ruth Built” - Yankee Stadium.

We’re headed up for the final three games (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) of the Yankees four game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (yea, I struggle to write that out every time…it was so much simpler when they were the California Angels).

(Jason) Taylor-Made Awkwardness

It was the same for Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, even Patrick Ewing, and it will be the same for Brett Favre if he plays for anyone not known for having Cheeseheads in the stands.

There is something that just doesn’t feel right about picturing Babe Ruth in a Braves uniform or Jordan in a Wizards jersey. And the same is the case for longtime Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor in his new Washington Redskins’ digs.

However, besides looking unusual in a Redskins’ helmet, Taylor’s presence has created a weird awkwardness. It is nothing Taylor can be blamed for, but it is instead all in a name. His last name to be exact.

NFL Preseason Power Rankings

Our friend James over at NE Patriots Draft asked us to participate in his “Sports Blog NFL Power Rankings,” and naturally, we jumped at the opportunity to show off our advanced abilities at ranking teams (or something like that).

James has each person’s rankings listed and something interesting that each person had to say. Needless to say, however, our rankings are a little bit different than the other 4 blogs that participated.

Here are our rankings and below are what we had to say about some select teams:
